Art and Activism Open Day at Go Eco is the kick-off to a year-long programme of artivism – where creativity meets activism to inspire social and environmental change.Join us for a day of hands-on workshops and collective action, using sustainable and upcycled materials to spark new ideas and conversations. You’ll have the chance to dive into poster and banner making, street art, zine creation, radical sewing, badge and sticker making, plus slam poetry and open mic performances.
Alongside shared kai, collaborative spaces, and displays of activist art, this open day is all about connecting community, creativity, and change. Together, we’ll build momentum for ongoing projects that will continue throughout the year, leading to a powerful end-of-year exhibition.
Guest Facilitators:
Nadia Solomon (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāpuhi) is a creative writer, poet, and self-described professional yapper. Nadia is excited to offer a space for people to come together to write, share, and connect.
Marama Salsano (Ngāi Tūhoe, Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki, Ngāti Porou, and Ngāti Wairere) will share a selection of her banners as inspiration, guiding participants to explore the tactile practice of textile banner-making. Participants will be encouraged to let
the fabrics speak to them, shaping their own unique personal and artivist expressions (please bring fabric)
Aimee-Jane Anderson-O'Connor (Kāi Tahu, Clan Anderson, Clan O’Connor) invites you to make zines. Whether you are new to making zines, or a seasoned zinester, there will be plenty to play with, and a friendly face to help you get on a roll.
This shared creative space will invite kōrero and wānanga, allowing messages to unfold organically through patterns, ideas, and touch. Participants will be encouraged to let the fabrics speak to them, shaping their own unique personal and artivist expressions.
This event is supported by the Hamilton City Council Creative Communities fund.
