**Registration will open on March 25th**
The Southern California Chapter is excited to announce our arroyo toad workshop is back for 2026! This is an exciting opportunity to learn about our native arroyo toad, a federally endangered species and California species of special concern plus other co-occurring frogs and toads. This workshop will be taught by seasoned wildlife professionals who specialize in arroyo toads.
We’ll spend one day in lecture and one evening in the field. Registration will open on Wednesday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. Be on the lookout for the notification! Registration will be limited to 30 participants and is expected to fill very quickly.
What to Expect:
This workshop is geared towards the professional biologist. Participants will need to be in fair physical condition to traverse areas in the field and be able to avoid stepping on toads. Participants are expected to provide their own transportation, head lamps and other field gear, and warmth.
Registration includes: 1 day of lecture and 1 night of field experience, a catered meal the first day (details to be provided), and snacks.
The classroom session will be on Monday, April 20th at the Rancho Mission Viejo Nature Reserve in Rancho Mission Viejo, Orange County, CA. The field workshops to complement the classroom session will be on the evenings of Monday, April 20th, Friday, April 24th, and Saturday, April 25th at the Rancho Mission Viejo Nature Reserve. Only one field session either Monday, Friday, or Saturday night will be offered per ticket. In order to limit potential impacts to toads and provide a better experience, we are limiting field attendance to 10 attendees per night. We will try to place out-of-town participants in the Monday night field session to the degree possible. Due to safety concerns, children are not able to attend the field portion.
Approximate Workshop Schedule:
Classroom session: April 20, 10:30am-4pm
Field session (option 1): April 20, 7-11pm (time may be slightly revised)
Field session (option 2): April 24, 7-11pm (time may be slightly revised)
Field session (option 3): April 25, 7-11 pm (time may be slightly revised)
Registration:
The registration cost for the workshop is $300 for members, $325 for non-members, and $150 for students. The registration link will be offered next week Wednesday (3/25) at 07:00 p.m. and will be sent via our email newsletter. A maximum of 30 people may enroll. You will be notified of your successful registration within a few days of the registration link being shared. Registration will be processed using a credit card in the order received via Ticket Tailor. Once successfully registered, you will receive workshop logistics and information within 1-2 weeks. Once 30 participants have registered, we will establish a waitlist. As waitlist spots open up, parties will be notified and sent a Ticket Tailor link to sign up.
This workshop is a great opportunity for current and future wildlife professionals, has received high praise in previous years, and fills up fast!
