Armfolk is an exceptional group from Armenia dedicated to preserving and sharing their rich cultural heritage through traditional music, dance, and storytelling. Their visit to Michigan on Friday, August 29 offers a rare chance for our Kalamazoo community to engage directly with a centuries-old artistic tradition in an intimate and interactive setting. Here’s a brief overview of what the event will include:
Live performances on Armenian national instruments: duduk, dhol, and kanun
Traditional folk dances and songs
An interactive workshop with dance instruction, cultural and historical context, and hands-on musical demonstrations
Vocal pieces that include both Armenian folk songs and ancient liturgical sharakans from the 4th century
The ensemble is incredibly excited to share their work with Kalamazoo community, and we’re confident this event will be both meaningful and memorable for all who attend.
