Today, every filmmaking country in the world wants to engage in co-production, as budgets and financing become challenging. Some producers rely on co-productions to make their films/build their credits, and as Canada is the world’s most co-production country with 60 co-production treaties, Canada also prioritizes co-productions.Over the past two years, I’ve attended six film and TV markets and can share that there is a steep learning curve to these, but there are a multitude of advantages to co-producing projects as co-productions.
This year I have set up international co-productions with the largest production company/financier/distributor in Hong Kong, a co-production with a UK partner, and one—maybe two—co-productions with a Korean partner. As far as I’m concerned, this is the start of things to come.
This is an in-person discussion + accountability group for producers developing international co-productions and looking to build a real plan and international strategy. With a focus on Asia (HK/Korea/Japan/Taiwan) and Europe (France/UK/Ireland/Germany/Belgium), we’ll talk about market intelligence and best practices for finding and working with international project partners.
