Join us for our next ARCI Cineforum as we screen “Dry Sicily - Notes from the Climate Frontier”, a documentary that traces the slow, silent drying of an entire island - and what it reveals about our collective future. 🌵 Sicily isn’t just facing a drought. It’s living through a systemic crisis where climate change meets decades of political neglect, crumbling infrastructure, and a water network that loses over 50% of its supply before it even reaches homes and fields. Lakes retreat, dams crack, earth splits open. Since 2003, rainfall has dropped by 40%. In 2021, the island recorded Europe’s highest temperature: 48.8°C. By March 2024, drinking water reservoirs were at 10% capacity.
This isn’t just Sicily’s story, it’s the Mediterranean’s. It’s ours.
🎥 Through stunning cinematography and voices from the frontlines, the documentary by Mauro Mondello and Nunzio Gringeri doesn’t offer easy answers. Instead, it asks us to witness, to listen, and to confront what happens when water runs out in a world that keeps heating up.
🗣️After the screening, we’ll open the floor for discussion with Mauro Mondello. We will discuss the crisis in Sicily, but also what can we do to tackle it. While we watch the documentary, on the other side of the ocean world leaders and decision-makers will be discussing the future of the world during the annual climate summit that is hosted by Brazil. How does it affect us? What can we do?
