Archives of Belonging 

Presented across Black History Month and Women's History Month, KAC’s inaugural exhibition Archives of Belonging interrogates how identity functions both as a site of refuge and exclusion. While marginalized communities often rely on shared identity as the foundation for solidarity and safe spaces, Black queer and trans people frequently exist at the margins of those very frameworks. Through fashion, archival materials, and embodied performance traditions, the exhibition celebrates forms of knowledge production emerging from those deemed “Other” even within marginalized communities, affirming that choosing to inhabit the margin can open radical possibilities for self-definition and collective care.

Public Program

The March 21 public program activates Archives of Belonging through conversation, skill-sharing, and live performance, bringing audiences into the creative traditions of New York’s Kiki Ballroom scene. The evening opens with an artist talk featuring Iman Hill and Noelle Deleon, exploring how fashion, archival practice, and Ballroom culture shape new narratives of belonging for Black queer and trans communities. Guests will also be invited to participate in Ballroom workshops, including a Vogue workshop led by Icon Tutu Louboutin and a Runway workshop led by Godmother Legin Versace. 

The evening culminates in a performance showcase featuring runway presentations from exhibiting designers including Ken Tiffany and Stitched Addiction alongside a featured Femme Queen vogue performance. MC’d by Overall Princess Selena Dior and sounds by DJ LITA DA DOLL, the program highlights Ballroom as both a living archive and a site of cultural innovation shaped by the artists and performers at its center.
