About this Event
Speculative fiction is a broad genre. Also known as “what-if” books, spec fic changes the laws of what’s real or possible in society as we know it, then speculates on the outcome of these changes. Think sci-fi, fantasy, dystopian, etc!
Our pick for April is Bewilderment by Richard Powers. Bewilderment is a luminous and tender novel about a widowed astrobiologist and his emotionally complex young son as they navigate grief, love, and a rapidly changing world. When the father turns to an experimental therapeutic program inspired by his late wife’s research, science and empathy intertwine in unexpected ways. Both intimate and expansive, Bewilderment explores what it means to care for one another—and for the planet—when the future feels uncertain.
