The next meeting of the Lilium & Bulb Society of SA will be held on Wednesday, April 4 at the Aldgate Village Well (54 Strathalbyn Road, Aldgate), at 7pm for 7.30pm.Our guest speaker will be the Adelaide Botanic Gardens based Seed Conservation Centre's, Senior Scientific Officer Jerry Smith, who will share the story of some indigenous bulbs and the conservation work being carried out to save them.
Jerry has spent 25 years getting his hands dirty in flora conservation across South Australia especially in the Mount Lofty ranges.
He’s part of a small, passionate team working to secure the future of our native plants through seed banking, propagation, and post-fire recovery. Before joining the Centre, Jerry managed ‘Back from the Brink’, a major project to boost the survival of some of SA’s most threatened species, which is where is love for orchids (a substantial subset of SA bulbs) really took root.
Remember to bring:
• a little cash in case you are tempted by the $5 raffle or plant and book sales table. EFTPOS is available for sums over $10.
Looking forward to seeing you in April. Visitors are welcome.
