About this Event
During this family workshop, we will gather around Alfred's magical apple tree sculpture and have a go at making our own strange and unusual fruit sculptures.
Using simple materials of yarn and paper, the team from Blue Room inclusive arts will share Beesley’s thread wrapping technique. You will also have the chance to meet the artist and find out more about his folklore-inspired work.
Suitable for families with children aged 6-11
Siblings outside of this age bracket are allowed to attend, but all attendees will need their own ticket to manage capacity in the workshop space.
£6.50 per person
All materials included, and no previous art experience is needed.
Please ensure everyone wear clothes they don't mind getting messy.
Proceeds from this family workshop will support another apple making workshop for learning disabled artists.
About Alfred
Alfred Beesley is a visual artist whose current practice focuses on creating sculptures exploring the life cycle of plants. Alfred works in collaboration with artists and facilitators from Blue Room, the Bluecoat in Liverpool’s inclusive arts project.
Under the Apple Tree is a project exploring sculpture and storytelling. Alfred invites audiences to interact with his handcrafted art, sharing magical scenarios that recall fairytales and folklore.
Having become fascinated by the life cycle of fruit trees, Alfred spent time exploring orchards, making sketches, taking photographs and capturing the texture of the bark. His largest sculpture to date, a golden thread-wrapped tree is a magical totem that has formed the centrepiece for interactive performances.
Alfred often describes how he would like audiences to interact with his art, sharing magical scenarios that recall fairytales and folklore. He has previously collaborated with acclaimed storyteller Gav Cross on interactive events that bring to life his sculptural works through the legendary character of the ‘Green Man’.
Working alongside fellow artists from Blue Room, Alfred sets the scene by transforming spaces into magical ‘indoor orchards’ with sculpture, textiles, animation and atmospheric soundscapes.
