Some music feels like it's always been with us. Copland's Appalachian Spring and Barber's Adagio both carry that rare quality—instantly recognizable, deeply felt, and woven into the American imagination. Jennifer Higdon's blue cathedral opens a more private door, a meditation in sound. At the center of it all is Wynton Marsalis's Trumpet Concerto, with soloist Jens Lindemann guiding us through a shifting blend of jazz, blues, and classical traditions. It's a program that invites reflection—a layered portrait of American sound. This performance is presented as a part of the Rita Barbour Kern Masterworks Series and the Toledo Symphony’s concerts in celebration of America’s 250th are presented by the Rita Barbour Kern Foundation.
