Enjoy the landscapes of spring around Aoraki Mount Cook National Park.
It’s the perfect time of year to explore the flora of Aoraki Mount Cook National Park and the wider Mackenzie Basin. Come and join us on the hunt for Ranunculus lyallii – the Mount Cook Buttercup in the beautiful Hooker Valley. As the winter snow melts into the braided rivers and lakes, the valleys and basin are filled with flowering plants of all kinds. We eventually end up at the Hooker Lake – formed by the meltwater from the retreating Hooker Glacier. By night, as darkness falls, our position within the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve ensures a stunning view of the stars overhead. From our Twizel base camp, award-winning photographer and educator Mike White will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the basics of Landscape Photography and Astrophotography.
Our workshops are delivered with a combination of both theory sessions, and practical exercises in the field, so that you not only become comfortable in operating your camera to capture the scene by day or night, but that you also develop a broader understanding of the principles involved.
Please note that the Hooker Valley track is 5km in each direction. Although generally flat, members of the group will need to be physically capable of safely completing the walk while carrying their own equipment.
