About this Event
Glasgow songwriter Anton O'Donnell showcases his debut studio record Tomber Sur PRW with special guest slots from James Edwyn & the Borrowed Band, Gelvis Paisley & the Contraband.
--------
“It’s an album freighted with classic Americana songs showcasing O’Donnell as a commanding vocalist and wordsmith while his array of musicians more that play their part.” RnR Magazine, 4 Stars
“Anton O’Donnell is singer-songwriter from Glasgow widely known as the front person of Anton & the Colts. Despite the name on the front of the latest record being streamlined to reflect a solo stance, the band effect is alive and kicking within nine tracks that land on the listener in a haze of toughened suburban Brit Pop meets heartfelt Americana." Three Chords & the Truth
“Just when you think you’ve got a handle on the album, a curve ball is thrown with Madman On the Loose, which digs so deep into the heart of Americana you’d never know the songwriter came from another continent; but probably it takes that kind of romanticism to fill four minutes with so much Technicolour imagery.” Rocking Magpie
“Everything is carefully sculptured. Singers in the past who dabbled in this arena were the late David McWilliams, the aforementioned Hyde & Brady, along with solo work by Paul Roberts, Australia’s late Gary Shearston, Al Stewart & Pierce Turner. These are masters of songwriting & I’m adding Anton to this list”. Americana Highways

When done right, some songs can take the roof off the place. Others can silence it with pure heartfelt emotion. Mixing the two, from the raucous venue to the most intimate of spaces, or on the same record, is another musical sphere entirely. It's hard to get right, let alone as consistently and successfully as Anton O'Donnell has. With incomparable balladry, and a world-renowned articulation of all things Americana and beyond, the Glasgow based songwriter and musician always delivers this most elusive kind of musicality and stagecraft.
From Texas to Rome, Nashville to Paris, Berlin to Rotterdam, reviews have been consistently impressive from his near-constant performances and tours. In the Netherlands his solo sets were praised by The Blues Alone for their "convincing, spicy and catchy songs... that contain confrontational strong lyrics." Hannah Compton of Building Our Own Nashville writes that his won't be a name she forgets any time soon.
This has also been the case in the press. The articles focussing on latest album Tomber Sur PRW are no exception. "He doesn't sound like anyone else on the market," writes John Apice of Americana Highways, highlighting the distinctive tone of his voice. Geoff Wilbur calls the record "gritty, heartfelt, immersively engaging" and "a great beginning to end listen." MD
