•SEEKING absolutely UNHINGED actors. If you as a performer are SUBTLE, NUANCED, or have ever been described as a QUIET and CALMING PRESENCE please do not attend auditions.
•We are most interested in your VOICE. The lead role of ANTIGONE will be female-presenting. For all other roles the age and gender of the actor is mostly immaterial.
•PREPARE a one minute spoken piece that showcases your voice. Memorization not required. (theatrical monologues, song lyrics, epic poetry, passages from your favorite novel, etc. – all are welcome) Whatever you prepare, remember the goal is to PERFORM it, not merely present it.
PREPARE a full list of your schedule conflicts for rehearsals. If you only have a couple of days available a week, then unfortunately you do not have time to be in a play.
•Auditions will also consist of cold readings from the script.
ROLES:
All characters have a good deal of stage time.
ANTIGONE, CREON, and CHORUS have the longest speeches. NOTE: This script is intended to be presented as a one-act. (hour runtime – no intermission)
CHORUS – narrator and master of ceremonies, extremely long monologues, poetic and ominous
ANTIGONE – dramatic lead, female presenting, the audience must be absolutely obsessed with Antigone and also vaguely terrified – onstage intimacy with HAEMON
NURSE – older, endearing fussbudget, comedic, ability to speak French fluently a plus
ISMENE – sweet and kind and weak, Antigone’s sibling – repeatedly described in the script as ‘beautiful’
HAEMON – Antigone’s fiance and Creon’s child – onstage intimacy with ANTIGONE
CREON – a likable, reasonable tyrant – antigone’s foil in the play’s central argument, a powerhouse
FIRST GUARD (JONAS) – plainspoken cop, comedic
SECOND GUARD – another cop, comedic
THIRD GUARD – another cop, comedic
MESSENGER – only two lines, but the climax of the play rests on your shoulders — one for the real Greek Theater nerds
PAGE – Creon’s attendant, usually cast as a young child
EURYDICE – Creon’s wife, non-speaking role, ability to knit a plus
