Bison were first introduced to Antelope Island in 1893 for breeding and conservation purposes. Because the island is covered by dry, native grassland, the bison are protected at Antelope Island State Park. Porcupine, pronghorn, badgers, bobcats, coyotes, mule deer, waterfowl, and bighorn sheep have also been seen on the island. The island sits in the southeastern portion of the lake near Davis and Salt Lake Counties. Being the largest of 10 islands within the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island has an area of 42 square miles. When water levels of The Great Salt Lake are at extremely low levels, the island becomes a peninsula.
This is a great race to kick of the Multisport race season with a run bike run on Antelope Island. Similar to a triathlon without the swim.
We have also added some run only events on the Causeway; half Marathon, 10K, and 5K
Sprint/Short is Bike 11 Miles, Run 3.1 Miles
Olympic/Intermediate Bike 22 Miles, Run 6.2 Miles
