About this Event
Another World Is Possible became the rallying cry for the youth-powered climate action and justice movement in Germany. You have probably heard of Fridays for Future and the School Strike for Climate, organizations and actions that galvanized an entire generation across Europe and altered the global conversation about the climate crisis. Hundreds of thousands of young people took to the streets. They marched, they chanted, they moved the world.
Then came the pandemic. The wildfires. The wars. Inflation, hurricanes, floods. So, too, came the crackdown on protests and the silencing of dissent.
But what those young organizers said remains true: Another world is possible.
Local non-profit POCACITO, in partnership with the Heinrich Böll Foundation and WTJU, invites you to a very special public town hall conversation: Another Cville Is Possible.
What do we want our climate future to look like in Cville? How do we build a movement to ensure we get there together, as a community?
Joining us for this town hall conversation are Luisa Neubauer, the leading voice on the climate crisis in Germany and the climate justice movement's most prominent representative, and Helena Marschall, a 21-year-old climate activist and filmmaker who has coordinated major campaigns in Germany and across Europe. Luisa is the named plaintiff in the landmark German Constitutional Court decision asserting the government's responsibility to take meaningful climate action. She is also a bestselling author and host of the Spotify podcast "1.5 Degrees." Helena directed the short film Another World Is Possible that brings viewers inside Germany's youth-led climate movement as they prepared for a massive public march. The film will be screened Thursday evening, October 24th, in Charlottesville. That event is also open to all.
You're invited. Bring your friends. Bring your neighbors. But please register first.
We look forward to seeing you on October 25th.
POCACITO Network is a Charlottesville-based non-profit organization that creates learning experiences merging concepts with practice, making ideas and innovations from around the globe accessible and locally actionable. These experiences tell the stories of community-centered sustainability movements, their protagonists, their achievements, and their wisdom. And by sharing these stories, we connect those seeking to engage in and with community to address the climate and environmental issues of our times. More information about our activities and actions can be found at pocacito.org.
