Before Halloween, before your parents used to dress you up in home made ghost costumes and send you out into the street to knock on doors chanting ‘Trick or Treat’ – there was Samhain.In modern times, Samhain (pronounced as ‘SOW-win’ or ‘SAW-win’) is celebrated from October 31st to November 1st. It is part of a pagan, Celtic spiritual tradition that marks the end of summer, welcoming in the harvest, and bringing in the darker half of the year.
Samhain is a liminal time, where the boundaries of this world and the Otherworld break down, allowing the physical and spiritual world to interact.
Every year at UUCFL, CUUPs presents the Samhain Service on a Sunday close to the end of October. It is a time to slip between the worlds and to honor those of ours that have passed into the next life. Those that are remembered live, in our stories and our memories and our hearts. We are honored present this for our greater congregation community. Please bring photos or mementos of those you miss. See you then!
