We’re pleased to announce the return of our Annual Diesel Gala, taking place Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th June 2026. Four action-packed days will showcase the best of Britain’s diesel heritage, with a line-up to excite enthusiasts and newcomers alike.This year’s visiting locomotives include:
* Class 35 ‘Hymek’ No. D7017, courtesy of The Diesel and Electric Preservation Group Limited (WSR), built in 1961 for BR Western Region. Entered service in 1962 and withdrawn in 1975, it later became the first mainline diesel loco to operate on the preserved WSR in 1977.
* BR Class 14 D9553, courtesy of Jon Gill, a ‘Teddy Bear’ locomotive built at Swindon in 1964–65. It worked at BSC Corby Steelworks and on heritage lines, carrying a livery originally proposed by BR for the class.
* Class 20 No. 20166, courtesy of Jon Gill, built in 1966 at Vulcan Foundry. It later worked on Channel Tunnel construction and is now in HNRC / Swietelsky colours.
They’ll be joined by the NYMR’s home fleet, including:
* BR Class 37 No. 37264 in 1980s BR blue
* BR Class 37 No. 37688 ‘Great Rocks’ in Construction sector livery
* Class 47 No. 47077 ‘North Star’, built in 1965 and the last to haul a cross-country express on the UK network in August 2002
Also featuring:
* 1903 NER Electric Autocar No. 3170
* Brake van rides at Levisham
* Shuttle services to Whitby
Ticket prices for the Annual Diesel Gala remain the same as last year. For a single day ticket; Adult £45, Child £12.50, for two days Adult £75, Child £17.50, three days Adult £100, Child £22.50, four days Adult £120, Child £27.50. A 10% Donation Fare is available with a 15% voucher for use in shops and tea rooms. Member prices are also available.
