About this Event

Hosted by the Rwandan Association of Queensland Inc. in partnership with the Federation of Rwandan Communities in Australia Inc.

The Rwandan Association of Queensland Inc. as the peak body representing the Rwandan community in Queensland for over 20 years, warmly invites you to join us for the 2026 annual commemoration of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.

This commemoration is a time to honour the lives lost and to reflect on a history whose impact continues to be felt across generations, communities and borders.

For many Australians of Rwandan background, this moment carries deep personal meaning, a space to remember loved ones, acknowledge the weight of memory and displacement and recognise the ongoing journey of healing and resilience.

It is also an opportunity to engage the broader Australian community in understanding how memory is carried, how division can be inherited and how communities actively choose pathways of reconciliation, unity and belonging.

Guided by principles of remembrance, dignity and unity, this event remains a non-political space centred on honouring all victims and supporting collective healing.

Held at Queensland Parliament, this gathering reflects a shared commitment to social cohesion, inclusion, and the responsibility we all hold in preventing hatred, division, and violence, wherever it may arise.
