Jazz legend and multi-platinum-selling songwriter Ann Hampton Callaway will headline the Mercyhurst Institute for Arts & Culture’s annual Summer Soirée on Saturday, Aug. 8. The evening will begin with an elegant outdoor reception on the Mercyhurst University campus from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by an intimate concert in Walker Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.For this special performance, Callaway brings her acclaimed program, "I Get a Kick Out of Cole," a vibrant tribute to the music and legacy of Cole Porter. Blending wit, warmth, and impeccable musicality, the evening features timeless classics including "Night and Day," "Just One of Those Things," "Every Time We Say Goodbye," and more. A highlight of the program is "I Gaze in Your Eyes," a song Callaway composed using previously unpublished lyrics by Porter, making her the only composer to set music to his unrecorded work. Throughout the evening, Callaway shares stories that illuminate Porter’s life and artistry, bringing audiences closer to the man she says “had so much savoir it isn’t fair.”
