Third Street Music School AAPI Month Celebration featuring Eternal Wind jazz ensemble playing reworkings of film and video game soundtracks
About this Event

Celebrate AAPI Heritage Month at Third Street with a dynamic evening that brings music, movement, and culture from Asian communities together across generations.
Eternal Wind, a NYC jazz ensemble led by guitarist Owen Chen, takes the stage with imaginative reworkings of beloved film and video game soundtracks. Known for transforming iconic music from Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki, Hans Zimmer, Cowboy Bebop, Kingdom Hearts, and The Legend of Zelda into immersive jazz journeys, the ensemble uses familiar melodies as a foundation for lush harmonies, bold improvisation, and expressive musical storytelling.
For this AAPI Heritage Month performance, Eternal Wind will feature selections from their debut album The Ghibli Collection (OA2 Records, 2026), which reinterprets the music of Joe Hisaishi through a contemporary jazz lens, alongside arrangements from fan-favorite soundtracks including Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, Your Name, Kingdom Hearts, and Cowboy Bebop. Praised by Paris-Move for being “carefully crafted, expressive, and marked by great subtlety,” and by BroadwayWorld for its “tender, almost aching arrangements” that create “nostalgia that made the room go quiet,” Eternal Wind delivers a performance that is both emotionally rich and creatively adventurous.

ABOUT

About Eternal Wind
Eternal Wind blends jazz and popular culture into a genre-defying sound.

🎐 Eternal Wind Ensemble
Owen Chen leads Eternal Wind, a New York-based jazz ensemble that reimagines beloved Studio Ghibli, anime, and film soundtracks through modern jazz improvisation. Drawing from the language of bebop, post-bop, contemporary jazz - and fusing influences from classical, world music, pop, and RnB traditions - Eternal Wind reshapes familiar themes into music that BroadwayWorld describes as feeling "intimate, restless, nostalgic and alive". Paris-Move praises Eternal Wind for it's "ability to build bridges between cultures while forging a sound entirely it's own", calling the music "immediately accessible while remaining remarkably complex."

Their debut album The Ghibli Collection released March 20, 2026 on OA2 Records (Origin Records), featuring compositions by Joe Hisaishi from Studio Ghibli films. Featured in Downbeat Magazine's April '26 issue. Paris-Move praises the album's "cinematic quality, painting landscapes and characters through melody."
