About this Event

Weekly Meeting: Tuesday, 5pm-7pm

Animal Advocates provides youth with a positive experience of active involvement in our shelter through structured volunteer shadowing, inspiring guest speakers, and of course, some hands-on interactions with shelter animals. This active program is designed to help participants learn, grow, and contribute in real ways to the well-being of animals in our care.

Volunteering at Calgary Humane Society starts at age 14.

Our Animal Advocates club attendees will…
  • Build upon their sense of social responsibility to animals, people, and the environment
  • Refresh their knowledge of proper animal care, body language, and enrichment
  • Understand available volunteer opportunities in animal welfare
  • Actively participate in support tasks around Calgary Humane Society to make a difference in the lives of the animals in our care
  • Be exposed to different career opportunities that involve working with or around animals
  • Become Calgary Humane Society Champions by developing their understanding of philanthropy and the importance of fundraising in non-profit work

Club Dates:

Week 1: Tuesday, January 13th

Week 2: Tuesday, January 20th

Week 3: Tuesday, January 27th

Week 4: Tuesday, February 3rd

Week 5: Tuesday, February 10th

Week 6: Tuesday, February 17th

Week 7: Tuesday, February 24th

Week 8: Tuesday, March 3rd

Before enrolling, we encourage families to discuss the program with their child to ensure they feel excited, comfortable, and genuinely interested in participating. This is an active, hands-on learning experience; not only a chance to sit with animals. Each week, youth will be involved in age-appropriate tasks that support the shelter, including group activities, small projects, and contributing to the care and enrichment of our animals and their spaces.

We want every participant to feel welcome, engaged, and empowered. Together, we’ll learn new skills and help animals in need! Let’s learn, grow, and make a positive impact together!
