Angels in America, Part One Millennium Approaches By Tony Kushner
Directed by Peter Sampieri
November 22-25 and December 6-8, 2024
Sophia Gordon Center Mainstage Theatre
A "swing" refers to a member of the acting company who understudies and memorizes several ensemble roles. These ensemble roles are called "tracks." The only time a swing performs is if an ensemble member is out of the show and they have to cover that track.
The director and production team of Angels in America, Part One: Millennium Approaches seeks to cast two swings for the following tracks:
1. ONE FEMALE-PRESENTING ACTOR TO LEARN THE FOLLOWING SWING ROLES:
Harper Pitt:
Joe’s wife; Mormon, agoraphobic with an addiction to Valium; perpetually fearful. Hallucinates the end of the world and breakdown of the ozone layer; travels to Antarctica in her imagination; meets Prior there, at the “threshold of revelation.” Fears her husband is gay.
Martin:
A flackman from the Regan Administrative who has dinner with Joe and Roy.
Hannah Pitt:
Joe's mother, Mormon, chilly demeanor. Moves from Salt Lake City to New York City after Joe calls with news that unsettles her.
Rabbi Isidor Chemelwitz:
An Orthodox Jewish Rabbi, from Russia.
Henry:
Roy Cohn’s doctor; he speaks plainly to Roy but tells the world Roy has liver cancer.
Ethel Rosenberg:
Executed for treason along with her husband, Julius Rosenberg, in 1953. Ethel both haunts and comforts Roy Cohn, who played a large part in her conviction.
The Angel:
An imposing, terrifying, divine presence who descends from Heaven to bestow prophecy on Prior. A force to be reckoned with. Powerful, forceful, commanding.
Emily:
A registered nurse, works with AIDS patients, including Prior.
Sister Ella Chapter:
A real estate agent in Salt Lake City.
Woman in South Bronx:
Lives on the street at the end of the train line, mentally ill, wise and psychic.

2. ONE MALE-PRESENTING BIPOC ACTOR TO LEARN THE FOLLOWING SWING ROLES:
Belize:
A registered nurse, ex-drag queen, BIPOC, Prior's best friend and Roy's nurse. Extremely stylish with a personality to match.
Mr. Lies:
Harper's imaginary friend. A travel agent.
