About this Event

Join curator Angela Bailey for a guided viewing of the City Gallery exhibition 'You Are Here: Melbourne Memory-scapes', followed by a queer history walk around the nearby city streets.

Step inside a unique exploration of Melbourne/Naarm through a stunning collection of black-and-white aerial photographs from the 1960s. Originally created for mapping and surveying, these images invite us to reflect on memory, place and belonging, encouraging viewers to locate themselves within the shifting landscape of the city. The photographs are displayed alongside items from the City of Melbourne Art and Heritage Collection, including powerful commissioned text works by Wergaia/Wemba Wemba poet Susie Anderson. Her words deepen the exhibition’s exploration of how images and language can evoke memory traces, mental maps and shared stories of connection.

Angela Bailey is a curator, photographer and creative producer, and vice president of the Australian Queer Archives. She has curated numerous exhibitions at galleries and museums across Australia, most recently the blockbuster Rennie Ellis exhibition ‘Melbourne Out Loud’ at State Library Victoria.

This event is being presented as a part of Midsumma Festival.
