Andrew McCubbin steps out to play a rare band show at The Union Hotel, Brunswick on Saturday March 7 (two sets). He'll be joined onstage by Henry Hugo (Hugo Race), Damian Hooper (Little John) and Doug Galbraith (Kim Salmon). This will likely be his last show before heading off to Europe with Mick Harvey (Bad Seeds / Birthday Party), where he'll be launching his long anticipated new album, Light Neck Speed.
Likened to The National, Nick Cave, Mazzy Star and Mark Lanegan , Andrew McCubbin is an internationally acclaimed producer, songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist. He is part of the fertile Melbourne to Europe musical highway that sees Melbourne and European musicians touring back and forth in various forms of collaboration.
His music has received the accolades of “Single of the Week” and “Single of the Year” for songs such as “The Fog Song”, “The Last Breeze” and “Blue” as well as “Album of the Week” for “Where Once There was a Fire”, “Dead Pilot” and “Hope Addicts” and “Album of the Year” for “Where Once There was a Fire”.
"Where Once There was a Fire" spawned the single, "Wait Here for the Sun" for which an accompanying music video was included in eight film festivals around the world including Barcelona's Around International Film Festival, the Belgium Move Me Festival and the International Music Video Underground in Paris.
His various bands have supported acts such as Adrian Belew (David Bowie), The Creatures (UK), M Ward (USA), Micah P Hinson (USA), Morph*ne (USA), The Cruel Sea, The Underground Lovers, Died Pretty, Hugo Race, Mick Harvey and Conway Savage (Bad Seeds) as well as Roland S Howard.
His 6th studio album is due for release in early 2026. The first single to be released from the album was Rise. It premiered in the UK on RHR’s Dark Heart of Camden and has garnered airplay up and down the east coast of Australia.
RRR's Music Coordinator and announcer, Simon Winkler called it "an excellent and distinctive reworking".
Metal Postcard also featured it stating, "McCubbin gives this PIL classic a new lease of life with an M. Ward almost Low anthem take on the song. Wonderful indeed".
A second single, Run All Night has also been released
"Run All Night could be the best song he has ever recorded. It’s very moody and atmospheric rock and roll, with a pastoral sound similar to Died Pretty. Run All Night should be on a film soundtrack someday".
