About this Event
Growing up in Kingston, Jamaica’s notorious Waterhouse District, Andrew Bees was exposed to and influenced by the best reggae, R&B and soul singers Jamaica had to offer. At the young age of 14, he became a regular performer on the popular “Colgate Cavity Fighters Club” program on Radio Jamaica. That experience exposed his talents to reggae greats Augustus Pablo and many others, who invited him to join them on their respective stage shows.
In 1996, Andrew was invited to join Black Uhuru as lead vocalist, touring extensively wit the band around the world. He would record multiple albums with the legendary band while also embarking on a solo career. He is a torchbearer for conscious roots reggae and that will be on full display as he is backed on this occasion by the top-notch musicians of The Purity Attack. Founded by Guno Ronde (bass, keys) and Walker Pillow (guitar), the in-demand group has been called to back up a wide array of reggae artists including Turbulence, Perfect Giddimani, Iba Mahr, Jaz Elise, Kenyatta Hill, Chezidek, Teflon Young King, Lutan Fyah and 5 Star Celestial.
Come early for an opening instrumental set, also featuring The Purity Attack and one of Nevada County’s finest saxophone players, Matt Langley. If that isn’t enough, KVMR’s Minister of Culture, DJ Redlocks, will be blessing us up in all the spaces before, in between and after.
