About this Event
AB Samahan’s 41st Annual Filipino American Culture Night “Lavender Letters” will be taking place on Friday, April 17th (5:30PM) & Sunday April 19th, 2026 (1:00PM)!
For the past 41 years, Filipino American Culture Night (FACN) has served as a student-run production which portrays historical, current, and envisioned events/issues within the Filipino American community. As a non-profit organization, Andrés Bonifacio Samahan takes pride in offering free admission to all audiences, which ranges from organization members to all other San Diego State University students and faculty, and even the public at large. Since 1986, it has been our gift to the community in the way it culturally enriches people’s understanding of the Filipino American experience.
This year, FACN is titled “Lavender Letters,” and follows Caidenn Kane, a closeted gay teenager, as he meets his openly lesbian aunt, Maring, for the first time. Through their growing relationship, Caidenn gradually recognizes that he does not need to maintain a heterosexual relationship with Raelyn in order to suppress or conceal his true feelings for his best friend, Kristan. However, his journey toward self-acceptance becomes increasingly complicated when the rest of his conservative family learns of his sexuality.
We appreciate everyone who has supported us throughout this season. The open mindedness and creativity to bring this show together is not just invaluable to our organization, but anyone within our community who deserves representing. We are honored to be given the opportunity to tell a story which invites vulnerability and challenges understanding, and are even more excited to show off the exceptional amount of talent and hard work our cast and crew have executed to make this show come to life.
