About this Event
"We can pickle that!" Kimchi and Quick Red Onion Pickles
Sunday, March 23rd, 10 am - 12 pm at Alemany Farm
Instructor: Mei Ling Hui
In this hands-on session, you'll learn to make two types of pickles: quick-pickled red onions and traditional fermented kimchi. Discover the science behind both vinegar, or "quick" pickles and fermentation. At this workshop, you’ll make your own jar of quick onion pickles and kimchi to take home for fermenting and enjoying on your own.
Mei Ling Hui was one of the inaugural San Francisco Master Food Preservers and leads SFRPD’s community garden and urban agriculture program. She has taught workshops all over the Bay Area, including San Francisco community gardens, the San Mateo County Fair, and Maker Faire.

FAQs
What should I bring with me?
Please bring a cutting board and a knife. This workshop will be held in the outdoor kitchen. Please wear layers and sun protection.
What do I do if I cannot afford the suggested donation?
We encourage everyone to make an offering commensurate with your means, and in an amount that feels powerful to you - such gifts make workshops like these possible. This workhshop includes materials for you to take home and enjoy and we ask that participants contribute to the material cost if you are able. We also do not want money to be a barrier to entry. Therefore our workshop is offered sliding scale and donation basis. Please contact us if cost is a barrier. If you can afford to make a bigger donation, your contribution will support this opportunity for folks with fewer resources and the food production at Alemany Farm.
Is there parking?
Yes there is limited parking on the farm (on the gravel drive inside the fence). There is also street parking on Alemany Blvd and Ellsworth streets.
Can I get there with public transportation?
Yes, please see the Get Involved page on our website. If taking BART, follow the walking instructions we provide; Google Maps can lead you astray.
