"The Reach of Light" Pride Art Exhibition - Gay in the Gables

Gay in the Gables is pleased to announce the debut of a limited-time art exhibition featuring acclaimed Florida LGBTQIA+ artists Josh Aronson, Celeste Burns, Ricky Cohete, Juicy Love Dion, David Gary Lloyd and Michael Zimmerer at 3010 Desoto Blvd in Coral Gables. Launching this June in honor of Pride Month, the exhibition invites the community to experience a thought-provoking art exhibition at the Historic Coral Gables United Church of Christ.
The group exhibition, titled “The Reach of Light,” will be on view from June 4th through June 7th 2026, with an opening reception on Friday, June 5th 2026. Building on previous activations such as Lloyd's solo exhibition Garden Shadows of the Sun, Coral Gables continues its mission of merging thought provoking contemporary art within the historic city.
The Photography inspired installation transforms the iconic sanctuary into a gallery space, offering an immersive encounter with the artist's and their work. Photographic and visual practices have been brought into dialogue with a historic place of worship to explore how art in religious institutions can create visibility, acceptance, and belonging.
Presenting these Photographic and visual mediums at a historic place of worship forces us to consider how art in religious institutions can create visibility, acceptance, and belonging. Across the works presented, light operates both as material and metaphor. References to halos, iconography, and devotional imagery as seen through a contemporary queer lens, invite viewers to consider how divinity is ascribed.
