About this Event
Elephant Room Gallery is excited to present their first exhibition of 2025, “The Colorful Chaos” by Delisha McKinney, opening on Friday, February 21st from 6 to 9pm. The exhibition will run through April 5th.
“The Colorful Chaos” explores the delicate and tumultuous experience of childhood in an environment shaped by chaos. Through a vibrant collection of soft sculptures, stitched felt sketches, playful collages and a striking purple door centerpiece, artist Delisha McKinney seamlessly juxtaposes innocence with harsh realities. Each piece reflects the resilience and imagination of a child navigating the dualities of joy and struggle, offering a window into healing and transformation. With bold colors, tactile materials and layered narratives, this exhibit invites viewers to consider how our environments shape us and how creativity can be a gateway to paradise.
Delisha McKinney was born in 1986 and raised in Chicago, where she is currently based. She is a self taught artist who has nurtured her creative knowledge through supportive instructors and one-on-one tutoring. Growing up in a military household, from a young age Delisha developed a passion for various artistic subjects, including fiber arts, ceramics, photography and relief sculptures. Delisha’s love for hip hop and children’s books is evident in her artwork, which combines elements of both genres. She pushes the boundaries of storytelling, aiming to create a visual narrative that captures the imagination and emotions of her audience.
