"The Burnout Society" Book Club 《倦怠社會》讀書會

On the occasion of Consciousness Festival, Eaton Hotel invites Sam Lui to host a book club session focusing on Byung Chul Han’s The Burnout Society. Lui hosted ‘Bad Purity Book Club’ during her residency at Para site (2025), where she led collaborative discussions on themes such as Purity and Authenticity to support her research.

Using The Burnout Society as the guiding text, this one night event will be a continuation of this to encourage a similarly intimate, fun and open space for critical discussions on self realization, wellness, and authenticity.

值此意識節之際，逸東酒店誠邀呂康玲主持一場讀書會，聚焦於韓炳哲的《倦怠社會》。呂康玲於2025年駐留於Para Site期間，曾主持「Bad Purity Book Club」，帶領參與者就「純潔性」及「真實性」等主題進行協作討論，支持她的研究工作。

以《倦怠社會》為指導文本，此一晚活動將延續該討論風格，營造一個親密、有趣且開放的空間，讓參加者就自我實現、身心健康及真實性展開批判性討論。

Sam Lui is a Hong Kong artist most known for her ongoing project ‘Wendy’s Wok World’ - a persona-driven project that unpacks the disciplinary world of wok-cooking alongside questions of purity, authenticity and identity.

From 2020 to 2024, Lui hosted studio dinners at her family’s soy sauce factory, offering an intimate, informal experience of the project. ‘Wendy’s Wok World’ has been presented at Ghost 2565 in Bangkok (2022), as a supporting event for Lap-See Lam’s exhibition at the Swiss Institute in New York (2023), and as a karaoke bar night at Art Basel, Basel (2024).

呂康玲是一位香港藝術家，其長期項目「溫迪的炒鑊世界」（Wendy’s Wok World）以角色設定與行為表演為核心，透過食物——特別是粵式鑊炒烹飪的嚴謹實踐——來探討純正與絕對主義等觀念。

2020至2024年間，呂康玲在其家族醬油廠內舉辦工作室晚餐，讓觀眾得以親密且輕鬆地參與這項創作計劃。「溫迪的炒鑊世界」曾於曼谷「Ghost 2565」展出（2022年），亦作為林立施與紐約瑞士學院展覽的公眾活動之一（2023年），並於2024年巴塞爾藝術展以卡啦OK酒吧之夜形式呈現。
