The Art of Andrea Jaffee, LCSW
About this Event
Tompkins Corners will host an artist's reception for "The Art of Therapy," an exhibit by Andrea Weiss Jaffee. The reception is free, and TCCC's signature refreshments will be served.
Jaffee, an artist and LCSW practicing in Katonah, NY, merges her experience as a Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapist with her art. Her vibrant acrylic paintings, inspired by pop, folk, Mexican, and protest art, reflect her personal insights and 20 years of therapy work.
Her latest series, "Music Is Therapy," features over 100 paintings pairing song lyrics with nature-inspired imagery related to musicians' work or lives. For example, Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" is accompanied by yellow roses, a flower Dolly loves. The series includes Willie Nelson, Lizzo, John Prine, Stevie Wonder, Tracy Chapman, Brandi Carlile, The Beatles, Queen, Adele, Grateful Dead, Indigo Girls, and Jimmy Cliff.
Jaffee's work is deeply personal. It is influenced by her grandfather's WPA-era art, her family's social justice activism, her experience with dyslexia, and her journey as a mother of a transgender child. A Brooklyn native, she has been making art since childhood.
Her next series, "Resistance Is Therapy," is in progress. Follow her on Instagram: @theartoftherapy_ajaffeelcs
This exhibit, supported by a grant from the Anne Anastasi Foundation and facilitated by Jonathan Galente and Mary Beth Minton, will be on view during events through May 4th.
