"The 2024 Farnborough International Airshow-
“Who Needs Orders When The Industry Struggles To Deliver An Airplane”
Presenter:
David Conrad, Vice President, Business Development, PTI Technologies
The tone of the Farnborough Air Show 2024 was a bit different from the last time when it was hosted at Farnborough back in 2022 following a two-year pause due to the global pandemic.. As our industry came together once again face-to-face and evaluated where we are and where we are going several interesting themes were on everyone’s mind.
• A focus on the A&D supply chain – limiting factor for OEM’s and the aftermarket, when will it “get better”, what is YOUR strategy to address
• Work force transitions and changes – how to attract and retain top talent, competing with tech industry, changing skills
• What sort of aircraft orders will we see from Farnborough 2024
• With the recovery of airline traffic to beyond 2019 levels – what will be the future for widebody orders
• Given the struggles of Boeing (and no CEO interview), who might become a possible “third player”
• Evolution and growth in defense programs – how will Europe reach defense spending target, what about new programs /platforms, new technologies
• Sustainability and the aviation ecosystem – are we making progress, how real is hydrogen, SAF and other solutions
• How real is UAM / AAM / eVTOL today – when will we see service entry, who may fail
The show itself was back to the level of exhibitors and attendees we saw at pre-COVID shows and there were plenty of lively discussions in the aisles, booths and chalets about the many issues we face. It was good to be able to see and talk to so many familiar faces and to compare notes on the health of our industry. As always the Farnborough Airshow manages to be interesting in many ways.
Come and hear a first-hand account from someone who attended the Farnborough Airshow 2024 and learn about some of the major challenges and changes happening in the aerospace industry. Bring your questions and concerns for a lively discussion of the future direction of aviation and the aerospace industry.
