About this Event

Melanin Motion partners with Vail and Afton Alps Ski Resort to introduce BIPOC, immigrant (even those from Florida), to the joy and learning to ski or snowboard, and to learn to love winter. Afton Alps is a 20-40 minute drive from the Twin Cities and offers an excellent environment for learning and growing as a winter sports enthusiast. The event's start time is set for 4:00 pm. This is a reminder to leave before 2:30 so you can arrive by 3:00 pm to collect your equipment and gear. Please map the trip to Afton Alps so that you can arrive by 3:30 pm.

Participants of all (6+) ages receive excellent instruction. Come with family and friends to grow as a community. We offer alpine skiing and snowboarding lessons for all ages and abilities. We recommend Alpine for young children (under 9) to develop snow awareness and environmental awareness, as well as for many adults. There is undoubtedly a steeper learning curve for snowboarding compared to alpine (downhill) skiing. The goal is to have fun on the snow and with your family.

The cost for lessons, lift tickets, and equipment rental is $17.00 per person for all MIM participants, regardless of skill (or sport, SB or Ski). The only requirement is that new/beginner participants commit to at least three lessons. We combine MIM coaches and volunteers with Troll’s professional coaches, and we guide families and youth from the time they arrive in the parking lot through equipment rental and dressing, to a smooth transition into a lesson. There is a coffee shop and a full restaurant to enjoy a hot cocoa or a meal afterward.

The goal is to build a family and a community that ventures out and enjoys the opportunities that nature, outdoors, and adventure provide. We also use Trollhaugen as the launching point for graduates of our weekend programs at Wirth, with a focus on programming. Invite the whole family for Friday family fun at Troll!
