About this Event

Join us Sunday, March 8, at 3 p.m. for "Remember the Ladies: The Women’s American Revolution," a presentation and conversation with Historian Dr. Lorri Glover, moderated by Dr. Kelly Houston Jones, associate professor of history at Arkansas Tech University.

In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary and the start of Women’s History Month, this program will highlight the often-overlooked women who were instrumental to the American Revolutionary War and their experiences before, during, and after the war.

The program will be available on the Clinton Center’s YouTube channel the following day.

The Clinton Center is commemorating America250 by presenting programs and activities that are designed to inspire everyone to discover how their skills and talents can propel American democracy forward.

This program is held in conjunction with our forthcoming exhibit, Making Amends, which explores America’s progress toward a "more perfect union" through the history of all 27 Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Clinton Presidential Center Presents is a partnership between the Clinton Foundation, Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas, and Clinton Presidential Library. This program is hosted together with the Arkansas Women’s History Institute and George Washington's Mount Vernon.

About the Speakers:

Dr. Lorri Glover is the John Francis Bannon Endowed Chair in the History Department at Saint Louis University. Her books include Founders as Fathers: The Private Lives and Politics of the American Revolutionaries (Yale University Press, 2014); The Fate of the Revolution: Virginians Debate the Constitution (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2016); and Eliza Lucas Pinckney: An Independent Woman in the Age of Revolution (Yale University Press, 2020). Glover has served as president of both the Southern Association for Women Historians and the Southern Historical Association.

Dr. Kelly Jones specializes in American slavery, usually focusing her research efforts on the Trans-Mississippi South, especially Arkansas. After receiving a BA at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and an MA at the University of North Texas, Jones earned a PhD from the University of Arkansas in 2014. Since then, she has worked on uncovering the histories of slave life on the ground in Arkansas, culminating in a forthcoming monograph by the University of Georgia Press. Professor Jones carries an enduring interest in the history of Arkansas as the western edge of the American South, which informs her teaching and participation at public history events. Dr. Jones is also the Graduate Director for the department. BA-University of Arkansas at Little Rock, MA-University of North Texas, PHD-University of Arkansas.
