The exhibit Plankton in Our Midst: The Unseen Citizens of the Sea and Our Breathing Planet will be on display at the Rockport Public Library, Nov. 2-30. The work of local artists Krisanne Baker and Julie Crane, and conservation writer Liz Cunningham, converge to create an engaging offering of glass installations, paintings and sculptures which amplify the intricate beauty of plankton and its elemental importance to all life on our planet.The creators of the exhibit worked in close tandem with scientists from the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS), Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, and the University of Chicago’s Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL). Dr. Michael Lomas, Senior Research Scientist at Bigelow Laboratory, provides a glowing endorsement of the project in the foreword to the exhibit catalog, praising the work as a “fusion of science and art that helps people explore the wonder of our world and the science that reveals its full splendor.” SEE MORE AT: https://www.lizcunningham.net/plankton-in-our-midst/
On Wednesday, November 13, at 6:00 p.m. the library will host a special panel presentation by Liz Cunningham, Krisanne Baker, and Julie Crane, PLUS Dr. Michael Lomas and Dr. Nick Record of Bigelow Laboratory. They will discuss how the exhibit and catalog came together, and the critical role plankton plays in the health of our biosphere.
