Tickets will be available soon for Show N Tell’s newest documentary — “Pick Up Your Mat and Walk.”The premiere is set for Saturday, Feb. 21, at Farmington Heights Church in Wilson.
This film explores how winning the 4A state football championships at Fike High School in 1967, ’68, and ’69 shaped the lives of the players for decades to come. Over the past year, we’ve conducted more than 40 interviews and captured over 30 hours of footage to tell this remarkable story.
The era itself plays a crucial role. Carlester Crumpler, the team’s only Black player, competed as schools were just beginning to integrate. Vietnam loomed for many of the young men, and girls’ varsity sports would soon arrive for the first time. Meanwhile, Wilson’s economy was shifting with the opening of I-95 and national campaigns calling out the dangers of smoking — a major change for a city known as the world’s largest tobacco market.
More details coming soon — we hope you’ll join us for this special premiere.
