ACAP Winston-Salem is hosting a free educational program titled "How to Be an Advocate for Your Aging Loved One" on Tuesday, June 18 at 5:30pm.The program will be held at the Highland Presbyterian Church Activity Building, located at 2381 Cloverdale Avenue in Winston-Salem, NC.
When caring for a loved one, it’s crucial to know what they need and how to get those services, no matter where they live. Advocacy involves figuring out the necessary services, who provides them, how to pay, and how to ensure they’re done right. At home, assess safety needs, ensure legal documents are in order, find service providers, check in often, and keep reassessing needs. If moving to a residential community, understand your loved one’s health and financial situation, explore local options, and match their needs with the right community. Always ask questions on your visits and stay informed about their care. Living in a community means knowing your loved one’s rights, visiting often, voicing concerns effectively, attending clinical meetings, and staying involved in medical decisions.
