“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” wrote George Santayana. This tour invites you to confront that truth firsthand.
We guide you through and around a building that once served as a Ku Klux Klan auditorium—an imposing structure whose scale cannot be fully understood from the street. Only when you step inside, stand on the stage that once entertained nearly 4,000 Klan members, and take in the vastness of the space do you begin to grasp the magnitude of influence this organization once wielded.
This is history experienced in real time. As we move through the hallways of this remarkable building, we trace its many chapters—examining not only its origins, but the evolving roles it has played in the community. Along the way, we engage in thoughtful discussion about race relations, collective memory, and the building’s future possibilities.
The Heart Hat Tour offers an opportunity to reflect, learn, and consider how understanding the past can help shape a more just and informed future.
