Our next Silver Spring Garden Club member meeting is on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 7:30-8:45PM Eastern Time at Brookside Gardens.Topic: “Growing Great Tomatoes and Peppers”
This talk will cover how a local business prepares its tomato and pepper seedlings for the spring season. It will also cover what varieties do best in our region.
Speaker: Carrie Engel, Horticulturist, Valley View Farms
Carrie Engel began working at Valley View Farms in Cockeysville, MD, in 1972, and is well known in our area. Carrie appears with meteorologists Tony Pann and Ava Marie, weekly on the WBAL TV's Sunday Gardener. She was awarded the 2020 Professional Achievement Award from the Maryland Nursery, Landscape and Greenhouse Association. She enjoys writing, speaking about gardening, photography, the Orioles, and spending time with her extended family. Carrie also enjoys traveling, especially road trips, where she looks for what is new in plants and gardening everywhere she goes.
MEETING START TIME: Monday,March 16, 7:30pm
Doors open at 7:00pm.
WHERE: Brookside Gardens Visitors Center/Education Building 1800 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton, MD
REFRESHMENTS: Silver Spring Garden Club members with last names beginning with the letters D-F are asked to bring a snack or drink to share to this meeting. Refreshment Chair Leila Campbell will coordinate the paper goods and supplies.
There will also be a FREEBIES table of garden information, plants, seeds, etc. You are welcome to bring garden-related items to giveaway.
NOTE: If the items have not been picked up by the end of the meeting, please take them back home with you.
We also encourage attendees to bring a flower or interesting foliage in a vase to share on our “something blooming from the garden” table.
This meeting is FREE and open to all. Guests are welcome!
