Panhandle PBS and Amarillo Public Library will present the documentary “Free for All: The Public Library,” from award-winning filmmakers Dawn Logsdon and Lucie Faulknor as part of Indie Lens Pop-Up. The free, public film screening will take place Sunday, February 16th at the Downtown Library, 413 SE 4th Ave. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and the film will begin at 3:00 p.m. “Free for All: The Public Library” tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today's librarians who service the public despite various challenges, viewers will meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all.
Indie Lens Pop-Up is the long-running film screening series that brings people together for community-driven conversations around its thought-provoking documentaries. The event series will feature both in-person and virtual screenings in more than 100 cities across the U.S. this year.
This event also takes place during “Library Lovers’ Month” - a chance for library patrons to celebrate, explore, connect, and share their love of the library. The event will have an interactive element for attendees to share their thoughts on Amarillo Public Library and its services.
“We’re so excited to continue these Indie Lens Pop-Up screenings that not only advance independent stories, but continue to bring together local communities across the U.S.,” said Beatriz Castillo, senior director of engagement operations at ITVS.
Indie Lens Pop-Up events provide a space to watch and discuss timely issues explored in its award-winning documentaries. Hundreds of these screenings are hosted in-person and virtually by partners across the nation. Since its inception in 2005, more than 7,200 Indie Lens Pop-Up events have brought an estimated 430,000 participants together to discuss issues that impact local communities.
This local event is supported by ITVS, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and PBS.
