Open Trail Collective is excited to host a family-friendly guided walk at the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm, one of our favorite places to hike, explore, and learn! This hike will be guided by one of Summit Metropark's naturalists as we explore the trails and learn about the animals and ecosystem of this 104-acre natural area. Come early or stay late to explore their hiking trails, walking paths, several ponds and gardens, a prairie, an arboretum featuring more than 300 species of shrubs and trees, and a visitor center (opens at 10AM).
Guided walk: 10 - 11AM
Snacks + Nature Center: 11 - 12PM We will provide light refreshments afterwards.
If the weather doesn't cooperate that day, a naturalist will do an animal encounter with us inside the nature center.
Bring grandma, cousins, friends, whomever! No family? No problem! This hike is open to anyone who wants to join.
GUIDED HIKE NOTE: This hike wont be more than a mile or so. Bring water, walking shoes or boots, and a carrier for littles. Please make sure you are dressed for the weather!
WEATHER: This is a rain or shine event. Please dress for the weather! If it is dry, we recommend comfortable walking shoes or boots. If it is wet, we recommend rain boots, snow boots, or other waterproof shoes. Hats, gloves and warm socks are also important. As for your body, we recommend using three layers.
- Base layer: This is a moisture wicking, snug to the body layer made of merino wool, bamboo, or synthetic materials like polyester. Avoid cotton cotton retains moisture and doesn't dry quickly, which causes it to lose its insulating properties making you even colder.
- Middle layer: This is often a fleece jacket or sweatshirt (again, no cotton) or puffy jacket to hold on to as much body heat as possible.
- Outer layer: This is a wind and water resistant outer later to protect you from the elements.
