Drawing to Learn: Anyone can use simple techniques to connect more deeply with nature through sketching
The health and wellbeing benefits of spending more time in nature are well-known. It’s also well documented that if you draw something, and write about it by hand, such as in a nature journal, you will remember much more about it, and connect more deeply. If you have wanted to draw and to start a nature journal, but say “but I can’t draw!” then join us this evening for a talk about how you can turn “learning to draw” and its associated fears into “drawing to learn” and quickly jumpstart into field sketching and the joy of keeping a nature journal.
On Sunday, Roseann will teach a class on getting started with nature journaling and field sketching, with a morning classroom session followed by plenty of time in the field where you will draw to learn and come away with the skills and support you need to begin journaling. Click here for more details!
Doors open at 6:30pm. The presentation starts at 7:00pm.
*The event is free, but space is limited, and registration is required. For those unable to attend in person, the talk will be live-streamed on our YouTube Channel.
Roseann Hanson has been keeping a field journal for over 40 years, and she taught herself to field sketch and watercolor in the last 8 years. She is the author of numerous natural history books, and more recently two field sketching books: Nature Journaling for a Wild Life, an eight-week guide to getting started nature journaling and sketching, and Master of Field Arts, a deeper dive into becoming a lifelong naturalist and field artist.
