Learn how to build a traditional poplar bark basket with heritage skills expert Andrew Lee. In this four-hour class, a pre-removed, folded, and dried poplar bark preform will be provided. Participants will use this preform to construct a basket—attaching the handle, rim supports, and more—with opportunities to add personal embellishments along the way. Each participant will take home their completed basket.
The minimum age is 13. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent. No prior knowledge or experience with basketmaking is required.
Class fees include admission to the Foxfire Village Museum, which participants are welcome to explore before or after class.
Come take part in this ancient, practical, and deeply rooted Appalachian skill.
