On June 3rd at 3 PM, the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum (REOTM) will open its new permanent exhibit, “Assembled in Lansing: Building a Workforce. Building a Union.” This exhibit was developed in partnership with America250MI, the statewide commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary. “We are honored to partner with America250MI to expand our interpretation of Lansing’s automotive history and future. This effort underscores our shared commitment to preserving the region’s automotive heritage,” stated Michael Rodriguez, board president of R.E. Olds Transportation Museum. This exhibit reflects America250MI’s 5 Guiding Themes—especially Unfinished Revolutions—by examining the labor rights movement in Lansing and surrounding areas and highlighting the continuous struggle for fair conditions and basic human rights. Executive Director Chris Haas noted, “The greatest draw of this exhibit is its ability to be continuously updated with new photos, stories, and artifacts as more people share their stories with us.” Together with America250MI, the REOTM is bringing the history of labor relations to our visitors so they can better understand how these events have impacted their lives and provide perspective toward today’s debates about the landscape of labor rights.
