About this Event

In partnership with the SF Crosstown Trails Coalition, we're scoping out a new walk around the perimeter of San Francisco. In doing so we’ve (re)discovered stunning views, nature, history, and art around SF’s northwest corner that we want to share with you! Our route will include Sutro Dunes, Sutro Heights Park, Sutro Baths (and some history about Sutro!), Lands End, Fort Miley, China Beach, Lincoln Park, and other hidden gems.

This walk is a 6 mile round trip loop. Participants who are unable to complete a 6 mile walk are welcome to peel off at any time - there are several locations along the route near an intersection with public transit.

Walk Leader: Helen Doyle, nature lover, writer, and educator, serves on Nature in the City’s advisory council and on the steering committee for Reimagining San Francisco. She also represents Nature in the City on the Crosstown Trails Coalition and is a docent at the SF Botanical Garden, Año Nuevo State Park, and Alcatraz Historic Gardens. She loves to explore nature in the City with like-minded people.

Preparation: This walk is approximately 6 miles round trip. Dress in layers for SF’s chilly but changeable summer weather. Sturdy shoes for trails, steps, and walking on sand and gravel as well as sidewalks. Other things to bring: snacks and water; binoculars; and a curious spirit. Restrooms available at Beach Chalet and a few places in between.

Meeting location: Meet outside the front entrance to the Beach Chalet at 1000 Great Highway at the west end of Golden Gate Park.

Transportation/ parking: The Beach Chalet is within walking distance of multiple Muni lines (N-Judah; 5, 18, 31 and 38 bus lines). Also accessible via bicycle. Car parking available across the street or nearby.

Cost: This walk is FREE to attend (with RSVPs kindly requested).
