About this Event

AlignmentHORSE: A Powerful New Approach to Equine Development and Riding Fun & Success. 1 hour introductory lecture-demo with Katherine Harberd followed by Q&A.

This is an evening to learn about AlignmentHORSE, a powerful way to revolutionise your equestrian experience. Katherine Harberd will explain why understanding the “Laws of Locomotion” resolves your frustrations with achieving your ambitions.

If you are struggling with these kinds of equitation issues, you are not alone:

  • My horse does not halt square,
  • My horse can make circles to the left but only potato-shapes to the right,
  • We frequently knock the last pole in a triple because my horse won't stay straight through the combination,
  • Why does my horse frequently look lame or unlevel but no-one can find anything wrong with her?
  • I find it scary to hack my horse because she's so reactive and when she bolts there's nothing I can do,
  • I can't get my horse to ride into the corners in a dressage test,
  • I'm told my horse needs a stronger bit and I'm not happy with that,
  • How do I improve my horse's walk? We never get the full coefficient in a test,
  • Why does my saddle slip, regardless of everything I've tried?
  • We lose time in show jumping and can't seem to speed up or tighten our turns,
  • I can't find a way to improve collected work,
  • My horse coughs on most transitions and often when trotting.

Sometimes problems plague us and every solution we've tried fails. Sometimes we thoroughly enjoy every moment with our horse but there are still a few niggles we cannot resolve. AlignmentHORSE gives a refreshing new perspective on our horses and how they move. AlignmentHORSE can easily help you solve the problems and find progress, fun and success.

About the Presenter and AlignmentHORSE

Katherine Harberd is a horse-owner & rider and practitioner of Feldenkrais and also of Masterson Method, helps rehabilitate horses and organises the work of Liz VanRoss, the creator of AlignmentHORSE. You can see Katherine's bio on https://aligned-balanced-connected.com and on https://alignmenthorse.co.uk

Liz VanRoss grew up working with horses in the US and the UK and spent seven years as the on-site Equine Rehabilitation Specialist and Yard General Manager, running the nursing team at Liphook Equine Hospital.

For decades she has worked with veterinarians and equine bodyworkers and studied equine anatomy, behaviour and neurology to create “AlignmentHORSE” … an approach to horse-development with which she has successfully rehabilitated hundreds of horses.

Her current focus is not only to rehabilitate horses but even more importantly to prevent occurrences and reoccurrences of debilitating equine conditions AND to help riders excel with their horses.

She works closely with horse owners and riders at all levels up to Grand Prix and 4* Eventing, to help them to work in better alignment and harmony, benefiting the horse’s mental, physical and emotional well-being.

Would you like to be next?

There is an AlignmentHORSE Clinic at the Unicorn 18th & 19th July 2026 with an introductory presentation by Liz VanRoss on 16th July and an afternoon workshop on 17th July.

Summary

Join Katherine Harberd at 6pm on Wednesday 10th June at Newhunt Tack Shop for a fun and enlightening evening. She will explain how modern science of equine anatomy requires us to change our approach to equitation. When we understand the "Laws of Locomotion", our horses can perform better and we see them improve in balance, coordination & collection, physical wellbeing and soundness as well as developing top-line and powerful hindquarters.

Katherine is happy to answer questions on your own horse's development and any training problem you have been dealing with. You are invited to enjoy a fascinating evening and, if you are intrigued, may like to join the AlignmentHORSE Clinic on 18th & 19th July (see the other 'event' listing), a different introductory presentation on the evening of 16th July with Liz VanRoss and a workshop on the afternoon of 17th July.

During the Workshop and Clinic you will learn the secrets of how to help your horse to move with ease, comfort and suspension. This is how your horse will find and maintain the elusive self-carriage that you have both been seeking. Learn to help your horse to engage harmoniously, comfortably and super-successfully, creating the best riding experience possible for both of you.

More about AlignmentHORSE

Liz VanRoss, the creator of AlignmentHORSE, is an equine locomotion specialist who has applied modern anatomical scientific knowledge to equitation. You may have thought there could be nothing new in any approach to teaching and riding horses - Liz breaks that mold/tradition. She teaches riders how to develop horses and transform their locomotion in ways you will never have come across before.

AlignmentHORSE movements are balanced and harmonious, removing the tension, torque and strains that an uneducated horse experiences in answering our demands.

Liz’s work also draws on new neurological understanding of horse brains, herd dynamics and natural instincts. It can elevate the understanding and capability of anyone in the fields of equine bodywork, dentistry, podiatry, saddle-fitting and training (riding and groundwork in every discipline).

How does AlignmentHORSE help you and your horses?

You have probably been around horses for long enough to know that sometimes a 'new' approach is just the same old story wrapped up in different words. Let's face it, a horse is "just a horse" - it has had the same basic structure and anatomy for centuries (just as human beings are basically one type of creature).

Science is constantly uncovering new aspects of anatomy and neurology, yet horse development and training remains basically the same old story even if wrapped in different words. Equitation is fundamentally the same now as it was in the 18th Century.

Since then we have lived through the Industrial Revolution, developed motorised vehicles, landed a man on the moon and can now communicate with each other on our smart phones. Isn't it time that we changed our equitation in accordance with what we now know through modern science and technology about equine anatomy, brain function and behaviour?

What Liz describes with her AlignmentHORSE approach is not just a new perspective but also a new analysis and it leads to better answers and methods (different from the traditional ones we are so used to). This is a new story.

All questions are welcome.
