ANCHOR is a welcoming support circle for patients, survivors & caregivers—real talk, real connection, safe community.
About this Event

ANCHOR+ is a Black Girls Fighting Cancer initiative designed as a structured, community-centered support experience for cancer patients, survivors, thrivers, and their families. Hosted within the hospital setting, ANCHOR+ expands upon the ANCHOR model by providing dedicated, facilitated spaces not only for those navigating cancer—but also for caregivers, loved ones, and youth who are part of the journey.

ANCHOR+ offers a steady and welcoming environment where individuals and families can gather for connection, guided conversation, and light educational support in a safe, facilitated setting. Recognizing that cancer impacts the entire family unit, this experience is intentionally designed to support both the individual and those walking alongside them.

ANCHOR+ is not a therapy group and does not replace clinical care. Instead, it complements the patient experience by strengthening emotional connection, peer support, and health navigation confidence for both patients and their support systems. Each gathering is thoughtfully structured yet conversational, creating space for participants to feel seen, heard, and supported—individually and collectively.

The experience includes guided discussion, gentle grounding or reflection components, and occasional guest facilitators who may speak on topics such as nutrition, mental wellness, survivorship, advocacy, or financial navigation. Dedicated breakout or parallel support spaces may be provided for caregivers and youth, ensuring that each group has the opportunity to process and receive support in a way that meets their unique needs. No clinical advice or medical directives are given.

ANCHOR+ is inclusive, culturally responsive, and equity-centered. It is intentionally designed to reduce isolation across the family unit, encourage open communication, and support whole-person and whole-family care. Through its connection to Black Girls Fighting Cancer, participants also gain access to additional community resources, referrals, and support services when appropriate.

By partnering within the University Hospitals environment, ANCHOR+ strengthens patient and family engagement while integrating community-based support in alignment with health equity initiatives and hospital care standards.
