About this Event
Holtspur Bottom is the only Butterfly Conservation Nature Reserve in our Branch area. It was once arable land but has now been restored to a rich valley-bottom chalk grassland and supports a good variety of butterflies, day-flying moths and other wildlife.
We will explore the two main fields, looking for their summer butterflies and admiring the restoration work which continues on site. We hope to find the Small Blue amongst other summer species.
Accessibility & risks: fairly steep slopes, mainly on grassy paths. Please check for ticks after the walk and let the leader know if you have picked up any ticks.
Please check here the evening before the walk to make sure it is going ahead as planned. This page will be updated regularly.
Meet at the reserve entrance. There is limited parking inside the entrance gate and under the railway bridge. From the A40 roundabout, follow Holtspur Top Lane for about a mile. Turn sharp left (at the bottom of a hill) into Riding Lane and follow it half a mile to the reserve. Please note that the reserve vehicle gate is only unlocked for events.
