In extension of the present Samurai exhibition, Historical Museum and the Japan Norway Society are pleased to invite to a in depth lecture on Amundsen visit to Japan in 1927.
In Japan, Amundsen was greeted as a major celebrity. All the lectures he gave were sold out and gathered several thousand people. There, he received a Samurai armor as a gift, which he later donated to the Historical Museum. See the armour in the exhibiton Samurai.
Lecture in english by Anna Karoline Johnsen. She works as an adviser at the section for research and development at the faculty of technology, art and design at OsloMet. In 2020 she completed her master's degree in Japanese studies at the University of Oslo, where she wrote about Roald Amundsen's journey to Japan in 1927.
