About this Event

Ventura Land Trust's Environmental Speaker Series presents: An Overview of the Past, Present, and Future of the Port of Hueneme

Join us as Giles Pettifor, Port of Hueneme's Director of Environment and Sustainability, dives into how the Port of Hueneme plays an outsized role in the economic success of Ventura County, while exploring comprehensive sustainability programs, including pioneering efforts in sea level rise and climate resilience. Giles will highlight its unique position as an early adopter and catalyst for medium- and heavy-duty electrification and clean energy transition technologies, as well as its leadership in statewide and national port decarbonization efforts, from supporting the state’s electrical grid to advancing offshore floating wind. Along the way, Giles will connect these initiatives to global greenhouse gas reduction and broader climate efforts—and, of course, he won’t forget the whales.

About the Speaker:

Giles Pettifor is the Director of Environment and Sustainability for the Port of Hueneme, where he is responsible for overseeing the Port's programs related to energy planning, climate action, adaptation and resiliency, as well as air and water quality. Mr. Pettifor is a nationally recognized leader in maritime decarbonization and is an environmental policy expert, specializing in climate change adaptation, energy planning, air and water quality, industrial decarbonization, and coastal resource management. He has over 20 years of professional experience working on coastal policy and management, water resources, stormwater quality, environmental outreach, science education, and fisheries projects around the United States and with several sovereign Tribal Nations. In his free time he is a father, surfer and bird watcher.
